Cadenilla Floor Cushion

Cadenilla Floor Cushion

Lucía Echavarría

Upholstered with a velvet textile embroidered in Juchitan, in the state of Oaxaca, traditionally used for the huipiles worn by local women in the Itsmo de Tehuantepec. The cadenilla technique is a form of embroidery made with a very small manual sewing machine creating detailed chain-stitch designs with intricate, often dense geometric patterns. The base of the floor cushion is upholstered in a loom woven rebozo from Chiapas.
