Through this year’s expo, we want to share the uniqueness —its mastering of the art of detail and finish— of contemporary Latin American design with the world. We want to portray that we can still find ourselves —our essence and heritage— hidden in the straightness of the lines of ancient main plazas; we can hear ourselves, clear and loud, within the angles of a perfect corn crop; we can feel ourselves, soft and slow, in the curviness of the full moon shining far above; we can see ourselves inside the petals of a lonely sunflower as if it was a mirror.
We celebrate the fact that men and women before us built endless temples and filled their pottery and loom with exquisite patterns that recalled the first encounter between chaos and order. Today, we follow that formal simplicity with a potent poetic concept that runs through our veins and turns our pieces into a-temporal stories. Keeping technique and exemplary execution in mind, we embrace the beauty of the handmade imperfections that add authenticity and life into our work.
This —our very own process of self-definition— embodies the metamorphosis of a simple rock, of a sheer piece of metal, of ordinary glass into transcendent works of art that keep our ancestors alive through their tectonic significance and adding the power of our authentic identity as inhabitants of the contemporary world.
